Doctoral Program Animal Science

The Doctoral Program Animal Science (DPAS) aims to prepare human resources as an academician, researcher, consultant, and policymaker, either at a university, industry, research institute, or government. The DPAS provides students with how to discover new knowledge within their academic discipline. The DPAS  sets four strategic issues as the main targets, namely (1) the competence of graduates who have independence in thinking and developing science and technology, (2) the relevance and quality of research, who play an active role in conducting innovative research independently or in groups; (3) the quality of community service, which is always creative in serving and applying science and technology according to the needs of the community dynamically; and (4) institutional collaboration with other parties at home and abroad. DPAS aims to provide graduates with a profile (1) as researchers, (2) as experts in policymaking.

Based on the Ministry of Education and Culture 3/2020 regulation, students usually can complete DPAS graduates during six semesters full-time. The average study length were 5.0; 4.02 and 3.95 years for 2018, 2019 and 2020. It needs to be improved to graduate on time by increasing the frequency of student activity monitoring. The problems faced by students can be addressed earlier and followed up immediately. DPAS provide a structured program – with regards to the research content and the required time – those students are enabled to progress efficiently through all stages of their research and achieve their doctorate within an appropriate time.

DPAS students must complete several accompanying projects as a standard for graduation qualifications (coursework, research project for dissertation, seminar and publication) during the education process. The dissertation is a research project results that is innovative thinking and discovery novelty in science. The type of publication at DPAS is international journal at least two publications. To improve communication and networking, the DPAS are encouraged to attend national and international conferences. FAS UB provides regular international (APIS and ICESAI), national conferences and internal colloquia to support and encourage students to share their research results and update references on the dissertation topic. Most DPAS students are professional and employed at various institutions, which after graduation, they can achieve higher positions. The professional classification destination is scientist, manager and government officer. The DPAS are focused on providing coursework and research and should be completed in 6 semesters. Figure 3.3. presents the aim that has to achieve at each semester.

The satisfaction of doctor graduates during the learning process in the last three years was categorized as satisfied. According to the management review for DPAS, the score of satisfaction was 93 (grade A).
